Healthy at Home – Interview with Chris D.

Welcome to the second post in our month-long series: Healthy at Home. This week, we talked with Chris D., one of our BT employees here at allsynx! Chris began traveling at a young age and has traveled around the world! He is an incredibly fun and positive person, saying he enjoys just waking up each day and seeing what the day brings. We asked him our questions about his time at home during the pandemic and are excited to share his answers with you.

LEARNsynx:
What does a healthy lifestyle mean to you?

Chris D.:
You have to have balance, just like everything else in life. Too much of a good thing ends up being toxic. It’s kind of like the force in Star Wars – there is the light side and the dark side, and you have one without the other. If you’re working constantly, you need time to detox from that. On the flip side of that, if you’re constantly relaxing, you’re not going to get anything done. So for a healthy lifestyle you have to have balance.

LEARNsynx:
How has social distancing and remote working affected your wellness and daily routine?

Chris D.:
Really, my life has changed in a minimal way. I don’t really go out much unless I’m going to a friend’s house, but since we can’t do that right now, we’ll hop on a Zoom call and chit chat and have snacks together. I mask up every time I go out now, which is pretty much only for grocery shopping or exercising. I’ve been following the guidelines really strictly because I’d rather be safe than sorry. I’ve got things at home to entertain me, so I’m content not going out too much.

LEARNsynx:
If we made a favorites list for all things wellness related – healthy snack ideas, books, motivational people to follow on social media, fitness planning, at-home exercises – what two or three things would be at the top of your list?

Chris D.:
First, I would say to try new recipes! My culinary skills have increased a lot from being home. I’ve tried new dishes that I wouldn’t have had the time or energy to try before. Get creative!

Also, working out. I know gyms are still opening, but I’d rather be at home. I’ve lost weight since COVID started because I’ve been working out more. Add in little things that you can do from home. I have ankle weights and wrist weights that are easy to add on when I hike. Things like that.

Finally, even though I’m at home, I’m still meal prepping most of my meals and snacks. It’s easy, and it makes it easier to make healthy choices.

LEARNsynx:
Lastly, what is one piece of advice you would give to someone reading this article and looking to commit to a more whole and healthy lifestyle?

Chris D.:
If you’re working on a computer all day, like me, I like to try to get at least 45 minutes to an hour away from electronics altogether. It helps my brain unwind from the day and kind of detox, so I try to do that before going to bed every night. Try it out!

About: Healthy at Home is a series of short interviews to highlight different allsynx employees and their health and wellness experiences while working remotely and social distancing due to COVID-19. Each week this August, we’ll ask different employees the same four questions. We hope you can gain insight from their various responses to help promote your own physical, mental, and emotional wellness in whatever situation you currently find yourself because of the pandemic.
