Healthy at Home – Interview with Regan

For this first Healthy at Home post, LEARNsynx sat down with one of our own! Regan is a member of the LEARNsynx team. As a former fitness instructor, she is passionate about healthy living and fitness. Here’s what she had to say about how she’s living Healthy at Home.

LEARNsynx:
What does a healthy lifestyle mean to you?

Regan:
For me, it means balance, especially during quarantine, and finding the energy to do what I need to do for me. Day to day, that looks like getting enough sleep, eating the right things – and making a schedule so I’m not snacking all day, – finding the time to dedicate to exercise, and spending time outside.

LEARNsynx:
How has social distancing and remote working affected your health & fitness routine?

Regan:
It’s been really positive for me, actually! As a fitness instructor, I had a set routine, but once I began working full-time in a corporate environment, finding and sticking to a schedule that worked for me was hard. Now that I’m working from home, I have more time to cook my own meals, and I have easier access to my healthy snacks at home instead of having to meal plan and prep every day. I also don’t have those off-the-wall cravings from being in the break room next to the snack machine at lunch! At far as fitness goes, I’m finding ways to be active during my breaks throughout the day, instead of having to wait until the end of the day to do my walking or exercising.

LEARNsynx:
If we made a favorites list for all things wellness related – healthy snack ideas, books, motivational people to follow on social media, fitness planning, at-home exercises – what two or three things would be at the top of your list?

Regan:
I love this app called BBG Sweat.  You can download it on your phone or just get a copy of the plan sent to you directly. Basically, it crafts your workout in 7 minute intervals. What I love is that it lets you go at your own pace, but also gives you some direction so you’re not totally lost on what you should be doing next.

My second tip would be my favorite healthy snack. I’m a ranch-lover! So I’ll mix about 1/2 cup of 0% fat, plain Greek yogurt with some dry ranch mix to get my ranch fix in a healthier way. I love to eat it with fresh veggies or even on crackers. It’s delish!

LEARNsynx:
Lastly, what is one piece of advice you would give to someone reading this article and looking to commit to a more whole and healthy lifestyle?

Regan:
Try to forget the word “diet”. Instead, commit to living a little healthier every day. This could mean getting into the habit of ordering water instead of soda, taking walks during your lunch breaks, or anything else. Little by little, you won’t have to make a conscious decision to be healthy, it’s will just be a part of your regular, every day life.

… ALSO, cut yourself some slack. Sometimes you just need a cup of ice cream (in moderation) and that’s okay!

About: Healthy at Home is a series of short interviews to highlight different allsynx employees and their health and wellness experiences while working remotely and social distancing due to COVID-19. Each week this August, we’ll ask different employees the same four questions. We hope you can gain insight from their various responses to help promote your own physical, mental, and emotional wellness in whatever situation you currently find yourself because of the pandemic.
